Questions people ask

How does Tiffin calculate the Combined Score?

The 2027 admissions policy says the Combined Score is 50% English and 50% maths. The English part is the Stage Two English score; the maths part combines the Stage One and Stage Two maths scores in the ratio 2:3. All scores are standardised and age weighted first.

What was the Tiffin cut-off score?

The school's table gives a cut-off of 98 for 2025 entry and 102 for 2024 entry. The lowest score offered a place on 1 March was 100 for 2026 and 2025 entry and 104 for 2024 entry. The 2026 cut-off is set when the waiting list closes.

When do parents get the Tiffin scores?

The policy says standardised scores are shared only with parents of boys not offered a place on National Offer Day. Boys not invited to Stage Two receive their Stage One scores.

Does the Stage One English score count?

Not in the Combined Score. Stage One English helps decide who is invited to Stage Two; the Combined Score uses Stage Two English and both maths scores.

How we work this out

What it does

Enter his three standardised scores to get the Combined Score Tiffin ranks by, beside the scores that won places for 2024 to 2026 entry.

Tiffin School (boys), Year 7 entry. The rule is from the school's determined admissions policy for September 2027 entry, and the past scores from its table of how places were offered for 2024 to 2026 entry.

Method

  1. Maths is Stage One maths and Stage Two maths combined in the ratio 2:3: twice Stage One plus three times Stage Two, divided by five.
  2. The Combined Score is half Stage Two English and half that maths figure, shown to one decimal place.
  3. For 104 in English, 98 in Stage One maths and 101 in Stage Two maths, maths is 99.8 and the Combined Score is 101.9.
  4. Each year compares the score with the lowest score offered a place on 1 March and, once published, the cut-off: the lowest score admitted by the end of Year 7.
